The UNPUBLISHED PHOTO contest is promoted by the Fondazione Culture e Musei of Lugano (hereinafter referred to as FCM) with MUSEC-Lugano; organised in collaboration with the 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS Gallery in Milan and the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere e Arti in Venice and it is in partnership with the De Pietri Artphilein Foundation in Lugano and the Fondazione Ada Ceschin e Rosanna Pilone in Zurich.

Participation in the international competition is free of charge and open to young photographers born between 1993 and 2005.

Until 16 April applicants must submit a portfolio of ten unpublished images. The portfolio must have a thematic and stylistic unity.

A technical jury of international experts from the world of photography, communication and publishing will chose the four finalist portfolios.

The winners will receive the following cash prizes:

• 1st prize: CHF 2.000 2nd prize: CHF 1.500 3rd and 4th prize: CHF 1.000.
  
• The De Pietri Artphilein Foundation with Artphilein Editions of Lugano will award a special prize to one of the four winners, consisting in the publication of a prestigious monographic art book.

FCM will organize an exhibition with the four finalists at MUSEC in Lugano (Switzerland) from 15 December 2023 to 18 February 2024. The curators will select six images for each portfolio. For the realization of the Fine Art prints, the finalists must be able to provide the appropriate digital files (TIFF file min. 300 dpi and Adobe rgb 1998 color profile). The prints (60x90 cm c.) will be produced by FCM and will become part of the MUSEC photographic collections.

The 2022 World Press Photo Contest is now open for submissions until 11 January 2022. Entering the World Press Photo Contest is free and open to all professional photographers in the field of journalism and/or documentary photography.

Prizes

Winners of this year's contest have a chance to win €1,000 as a regional winner and an additional €5,000 as a global winner, as well as to have their work showcased to a global audience through the annual World Press Photo Exhibition travelling to over 80 countries and global media outreach and exposure on social channels with over 2 million followers.

2022 Contest categories

The 2022 World Press Photo Contest works with 6 worldwide regions – Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, South America, and Southeast Asia and Oceania. Entries will be judged in the region in which they have been taken, for example a single photograph taken in Canada would be entered into North and Central America in the Singles category. Each region has four format-based categories: Singles, Stories, Long-Term Projects and Open Format.

These categories welcome entries that document news moments, events and aftermaths, as well as social, political and environmental issues or solutions.

These format-based categories encompass all thematic categories from previous contests – such as general news, spot news, contemporary issues, environment, nature, sports, portraits – therefore entries on a wide range of themes may be submitted to the appropriate format-based category.

Smithsonian magazine 18th Annual Photo Contest begins March 31, 2020, and ends November 30, 2020, at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that he or she is 18 years old or older.

The following six contest categories are drawn from subjects of special interest to Smithsonian magazine:

1. Natural World: Animals, plants and landscapes; geological or climatological features; and scientific processes and endeavors.
   
2. Travel: Locales, peoples or activities in the United States and abroad that convey a sense of place.
   
3. People: Portraits and photos of groups or individuals.
   
4. The American Experience: Events, objects or activities connecting the American people to their history or their cultural heritage; photographs that tell us what it means to be an American and provide a sense of what it is like to live in this country.
   
5. Altered Images: Photographs manipulated for artistic purposes by applying digital and/or traditional special effects.
   
6. Mobile: Any photograph taken with a mobile device (phone or tablet).

In holding the Nikon Photo Contest yet again, we at Nikon are looking for works that use the power of imaging to appeal to others. This Contest has been held since 1969. That's roughly half a century promoting a vision of supporting creators who influence others through the global language of imaging, regardless of their age, nationality, or background. We hope to provide a place where like-minded artists who seriously pursue imaging expression can acknowledge, inspire, and challenge one another.

This year's Contest will be comprised of a photo competition and a short film competition.
The theme for the Open category in both competitions is "Connect". In today's society, images have become a familiar means of communication with billions of photos and videos shared via the Internet every day. It can be said that we humans are searching for new, never-before-seen ways to bond and communicate. Therefore, we are looking for entries in the Open category that express the connections artists feel now in their own unique ways.
The theme for the Next Generation category open to artists aged 25 years old and younger is "Passion". Passion has the power to stimulate people's feelings, create empathy, and change the future. We are looking for entries in the Next Generation category that convey the passion young artists feel in and around themselves through images.

Our goal with this Contest is to share the new value of imaging with more people as we pursue imaging's ultimate potential. We want artists to express their inner creativity through images and inspire emotion and courage in others as we head into the future together.
