Jorge Valdez from Boston, Massachusetts
I am Jorge Valdez, a biological engineer working on tissue engineering who also enjoys thinking about photography and making photos. I am captivated by how a camera can allow us to extract pieces of a chaotic reality, and turn them into images that can be so revealing both of the world we live in and of the person behind the camera.

Building Blocks BY Brian Ashworth
Our Second Place Winner was submitted by
Brian Ashworth from Bury, England
Brian Ashworth from Bury, England
Currently based in the North West of England, I am a keen amateur photographer and enjoy capturing diverse and wide-ranging subjects, using a variety of techniques.
I am particularly inspired by abstract, minimalism, shadow and silhouette, communicating primarily through form, texture, contrast and colour rather than representation, and having grown up with film, prefer to complete work as much as possible with the camera, limiting post-processing to minor cropping and contrast changes.
I also enjoy the challenge of competitions, developing my creativity and motivating me to explore subjects I am less familiar with.

Sunset at Burano Island by Mattia Borgato
Our Honorable Mention Winner was submitted by
Mattia Borgato from Borgato, Italy
I'm Mattia Borgato, 26 years old. My first camera was given to me after a traffic accident in 2011. From that moment on, I became more and more interested in photography. I love to photograph nature, even at night to admire the stars, sunrises and sunsets. I also love candid shots, especially while people laugh or feel strong feelings. At the moment photography is a strong passion, I hope it transform into time in a real work.
