Our free photography contest recommendation of the day!
Photographing a culture in the here and now often means photographing the intersection of the present with the past.” – David Duchemin

We often get caught up ‘living in the moment’ that we forget the beauty of change and growth that shapes our present world. Photographs allow us to prove these changes, to preserve a moment in time, to relive memories that may otherwise be lost in the past. Those images that you will remember for a lifetime – the ones that still make an impact regardless of the number of years that have passed – embody appreciation for photography’s element of preserving the past.

In Duggal’s Recollection Photo Contest: Reconstructing the Past, we invite you to recreate an old photograph, artwork or image. The original image can be historical or personal. Both images must be submitted together, as separate files, in order to be considered for the contest.

Contest Dates and Deadlines
The Duggal Photo Contest begins April 1st, 2015 at 12:01 am Eastern Standard Time (EST) and ends May 31st, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST.

What does peace look like?

Follow us on Twitter: @FriedPhotoAward

Description
Peace and photography enjoy a special relationship. The work of photojournalists has always helped make people aware of the need for and rewards of a life of peace. Regrettably they usually achieved this with pictures of the opposite – war and hunger. The organizers of the Alfred Fried Photography Award 2015 call on the photographic community to focus on peace in the world and to communicate this strongly in the media and to the public at large.

Awards
The winner of the Alfred Fried Photography Award will receive the sum of € 5,000. In addition, the top five listed photographers will be awarded the Alfred Fried Peace Medal of the PHG.

The award ceremony will be held at the Austrian Parliament in Vienna on 17 September 2015, just days ahead of the UN International Peace Day.

The winning picture will be on display for one year at the Austrian Parliament and will be included in the permanent art collection of the Austrian Parliament.(click here)

PHOTOMICROGRAPHY COMPETITION
Enter Here
The Nikon International Small World Competition first began in 1975 as a means to recognize and applaud the efforts of those involved with photography through the light microscope. Since then, Small World has become a leading showcase for photomicrographers from the widest array of scientific disciplines.

A photomicrograph is a technical document that can be of great significance to science or industry. But a good photomicrograph is also an image whose structure, color, composition, and content is an object of beauty, open to several levels of comprehension and appreciation.

The Nikon Small World Competition is open to anyone with an interest in photography through the microscope. Truly international in scope, entries have been received from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Winners have included both professionals and hobbyists.

The subject matter is unrestricted and any type of light microscopy technique is acceptable, including phase contrast, polarized light, fluorescence, interference contrast, darkfield, confocal, deconvolution, and mixed techniques. Entries submitted to Nikon are then judged by an independent panel of experts who are recognized authorities in the area of photomicrography and photography. These entries are judged on the basis of originality, informational content, technical proficiency and visual impact.

PRIZE LIST
Winners will receive one of 20 prizes, sorted according to rank in the competition. First prize is $3,000 toward the purchase of Nikon equipment.

EXHIBITION TOUR SCHEDULE
Each year, the top 20 prize-winners are exhibited at numerous museums and science centers throughout the United States and Canada. Many winning images are also featured on the covers of prestigious scientific and industrial journals.

SMALL WORLD GALLERY
The Nikon Small World Gallery gives you a glimpse into a world that most have never seen. It is a window into a universe that can only be seen through the lens of a microscope. Included in the Small World Gallery are images from the most recent competition and winning photomicrographs dating back to 1977.
